CELEBRATING THE QUIET POWERHOUSES THIS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY Pt 1. Sarah Murray
Tomorrow marks International Women’s Day, a day I once overlooked because, honestly, shouldn’t we be celebrated every day? But as the years pass and I grow INXHALE, I continue to cross paths with remarkable women who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Women who don’t seek the spotlight but are powerhouses in their own right, facing challenges with grit and determination.
So today, I want to celebrate them.
Sarah Murray is a woman who thrives on challenge and adapts effortlessly to whatever is required. She’s the kind of person you want in your corner - strong, driven, and full of the kind of energy I naturally gravitate toward. Her latest venture, Aschworth High Country Station, offers the ultimate high-country luxury farm walk and stay experience. Think all-inclusive, 3-day/2-night luxury glamping, gourmet catering, and breath-taking high-country walks, all set in the heart of Marlborough. Bookings are now open for November 2025.
I asked Sarah a few questions to dive deeper into her journey:
1. Tell us a little about yourself - who you are and what drives you.
Sarah Murray, co-owner of Aschworth High Country Station, 38 years old, married to George (farmer), two children 6 & 7 year old boys – doing it tough in this boy dominated household, trying to be a cool Mum that rides motorbikes and goes hunting whilst retaining my feminine wardrobe.
I am driven to explore new ideas, wanting to create something that provides opportunity for others to experience the life we live, to enjoy the outdoors and to create a financially sustainable business for generations to come.
2. Before INXHALE, what was a challenge you faced in terms of wellness, stress, or focus?
I have a few health challenges and stress contributes a lot towards those, so trying to work with my body to get what I need to get done, without my cortisol jumping through the roof!
3. How has INXHALE helped you overcome that challenge? What’s changed for you?
INXHALE has been a huge part of my new stress management, I use CALM multiple times a day when I am feeling overwhelmed with my ‘to do’ list and ENERGIZE usually in the afternoons when my ‘to do’ list is still overflowing but its time to get the kids and start the afternoon sports rounds, it’s a great pick me up!
4. How have you turned your passion into something that drives impact or success?
My real career passions and life before kids were in tourism and marketing, I now have a huge passion for farming sheep and beef – so I guess the challenge lies in combining the two.
We always wanted to create a business here at Aschworth that is an off-farm income (not driven by traditional sheep & beef farming), but keeping it on farm, instead of looking for work outside of the farm we hope that our development of Aschworth’s High Country Station – Luxury Walk and Stay will in time develop to provide a more financially sustainable business model and opportunities at Aschworth for things outside of traditional sheep and beef farming for guests and employment.
5. What’s one superpower you think women naturally have?
Without a doubt it has to be our multi-tasking abilities!!
6. What’s something about being a woman that people don’t talk about enough?
I think the mental load is still something that’s not talked about enough, maybe as women we talk about it a lot, but this conversation needs to go further in my opinion, the constant mental checklist of responsibilities, birthdays, family schedules, meals and groceries, household – the list goes on. It’s a mental load that can hinder a lot of business and innovation success in women.
7. What’s something totally unexpected that you can do (hidden talent or fun skill)?
I love to down-hill mountain bike – the key word here being down-hill! Also a bit of a legend at backing trailers.
8. If you could switch lives with any woman in history for a day, who would it be and why?
Sara Blakely – I think she’s incredible, its really hard to find the courage to back an idea you have and follow that through the stages required to get a product off the ground. Sara is the founder and owner of Spanx, she has 4 children, she is a billionaire and self made. I’d love to get her insights into the business and innovation world, not sure she’d be keen to switch with me though!!
9. If you could create a custom INXHALE blend just for yourself, what would it smell like and what would you name it?
Wow that would be cool, I do love the ones I already have but if I had to, I love an old fashioned pink bloom smell, something about a cottage garden! And it would be called HUSH.
Sarah felt humbled to be featured, but the truth is, I feel just as humbled to know her, someone I’ve come to admire more and more during our chats at the kids’ bus stop.
Here’s to the women who inspire, support, and redefine what’s possible. Happy International Women’s Day!
Love, Kate XX
